EVENT INFORMATION

When there's a weather event, we'll keep you updated on this page with advisories and sitreps

What are they?

Advisory - A recurring report over the period of the hazard event containing information on the development of a hazard event that is potentially going to occur or is occurring.

Situational report (sitrep) - A recurring report over the period of the hazard event which details the current impacts and possible issues/impacts due to the hazard event.

Weather event - Sunday 15 July

Updated: 10am Monday, 16 July

Rain has cleared from the Waikato region with no significant rain forecast until at least the weekend.

Water is still moving from the catchments on the larger river systems and will take a few days to clear. Similarly, surface flooding in areas not managed by a Waikato Regional Council drainage scheme may take some time to clear.

We are still in a King Tide cycle, so expect higher than normal tides until mid-week.

The areas impacted by the events yesterday are now moving into a recovery phase.

Road closures

As a result of flooding and slips, there are multiple road closures in the region, in particular in the Hauraki and Thames-Coromandel districts.

People are being urged to check the NZ Transport Agency website for state highway updates, as well as the Hauraki District Council(external link) and Thames-Coromandel District Council(external link) Facebook pages for local roading information.

Weather information

All MetService warnings for the Waikato region have now been lifted.
