Zone catchment committees

To help us manage our integrated catchment management work, we’ve divided the region into eight zones.

Each zone has its own catchment committee, which comprise Waikato regional councillors, key agency and community representatives, as well as property owners. These members help to ensure money is spent well and in the areas most needed in their zone.

The zone catchment committees meet three to four times in a year. At the meetings members consider issues related to flood protection and catchment works, biosecurity and biodiversity strategies and programmes in the zone, and in some cases make recommendations to council.

Recommendations from the catchment committees are reported back through the council’s Integrated Catchment Management Committee.

Community appointees

Community appointees serve in an advisory capacity on the committees. Appointments are usually made every three years to coincide with the council triennial elections.

Applications for community appointee positions on all zone catchment committees have closed. Successful/ unsuccessful applicants will be notified by 31 July 2018.
