Waikato Regional Council needs to understand what information and what concerns people have about their environment. This will guide us in setting goals and planning environmental education programmes to fill information gaps. The survey will be used for assessing and monitoring people’s environmental perceptions - awareness, attitudes, knowledge and behaviours.
This indicator monitors what people see as the main environmental issues facing the Waikato region today and what the main issues are, identified at local district level.

In February to March 2016, surveys and interviews with 1,250 people throughout the region told us what the most important environmental issues were for them. This was a repeat of a survey we ran in June 1998, October 2000, September-October 2003, September-October 2006 and January-March 2013 when we surveyed 1037, 1873, 1822, 1003 and 1005 people respectively.
This indicator is updated every three years.The next update is due in 2019.
